My Message

Welcome to my blog!  It's kind of a lot like me - a very Bohemian, eclectic, artsy, crazy, creative, thrifty gal with Pagan undertones.  I think that it's important to live in  harmony with nature and with each other.  I love the idea of re-using and recycling old items to create new ones. I also love to decorate with vintage items just as they are.  Love, love LOVE thrift stores and dollar stores and flea markets!  We live in a crazy and uncertain era and sometimes prices just seem sky high on just about everything.  But we have a choice.  We don't have to be a slave to high prices.  We can choose to be thrifty and creative, and as our parents and grandparents did, to use what we have and not waste anything.

My grandfather worked in weaving mills and also once in a necktie factory.  Workers were allowed to take home some of the fabric scraps.  My grandmother used these to make throw pillows and other items.  She made the most gorgeous Easter eggs by wrapping string around a balloon and coating it with starch.  With the balloon popped, she was left with an egg which was decorated with ribbons, bows and flowers.  And all eight of her grandchildren received a piggy bank made from a Clorox bleach bottle.  My other grandmother saved leftover yarn from knitting projects and made things like hats and mittens.  My mother used to blow the yolks out of real eggs, use them for cooking (leaving the shell intact) and then we would decorate them for Easter.  A big tree branch painted pink inserted into a bucket of potting soil created our family Easter egg tree.

There are so many ways to be creative.  And this mindset of recycling items helps keep a lot of unwanted stuff out of the landfills.  This being said, I do enjoy shopping sometimes and of course finding bargains!  There are lots of stores out there that offer cool and unique items for way less than big department stores.  You just have to know where to look and how to work the system - like to find out when stores mark their items down, what days they receive shipments and so forth.

I think decorating your living space is always a work in progress...constantly evolving to keep up with our changing trends and tastes.  You don't always have to go with what the current trend is....the great thing about being crazy and eclectic is that anything goes.  The same for your wardrobe.  With a robust creative spirit anyone can be fabulous without spending a fortune!  Being fabulous also includes being mindful of the environment and our fellow human beings.   Treating everyone and everything that shares this planet with care and kindness is the most important thing.  I hope my words and the items I share in this blog will inspire all of you go out into the world and do fabulous and creative things!  Namaste.
